we created a zine!
The Dhauladhar Issue #31
hi!
Quickly dropping in to let you know that we’re still around and share something cool.
Earlier this year, we wrote a longread on our access to environmental information work. At that time, we had collected about 2,300 pages of information from the Indian state. We’re now at 3,063!
That means a suitcase full of “Official” documentation that serves no purpose anymore because we scanned and uploaded everything on an open access Google doc.
Well we figured out a great use case for all that paper! Since most of it is printed on just one side, we thought—why not convert it into a zine!
To make things interactive, we created one on the blank side of an important disclosure we secured from the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, in particular its disaster management division, regarding fund allocations towards addressing impacts of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods.
The purpose was to introduce a topic as dense as environmental and climate information in an accessible, lightweight, DIY, interactive and artistic way.
This is just a first draft of a classic 8 page zine, and our plan is to improve on the messaging and quality of artwork—but we believe it’s worth sharing because ultimately this newsletter is all about the process!

It’s fairly easy to photocopy the zine on a standard home printer too. We’ve already started distributing it around Dharamshala! What’s more, because the zine is so lightweight, postal charges are also going to be minimal.
Let us know what you think, and if you’d like to contribute towards copies!
